Xero is one of the best-known cloud accounting platforms for small businesses. FiscFort is a different kind of product: a dedicated, per-customer Odoo environment built specifically for Belgian and Lithuanian accounting practices. Xero figures below come from published reviews and Xero's own community forum, not from Xero's documentation directly, and are noted where sources conflict.
Two different approaches
Xero is a shared, multi-tenant cloud service aimed at small businesses, freelancers and their accountants. FiscFort is built on Odoo Community with our own added modules, and every end customer receives a dedicated Odoo environment on dedicated infrastructure — there is no shared database and no shared portal between customers.
| Factor | Xero | FiscFort |
|---|---|---|
| Bank reconciliation | Bank feeds with reconciliation, payments and financial reporting | Statement-based reconciliation on CAMT.053 |
| CAMT.053 bank statements | Bank-format references say Xero expects OFX/QBO or CSV rather than CAMT.053; community converters exist to bridge the gap | Yes, native |
| Peppol (Belgium) | Sources conflict: a Xero community post says support for some EU countries began December 2025, while users in the same thread report it wasn't yet available to them | Yes |
| Intervat VAT filing (Belgium) | Belgian users report no connection to the Belgian tax authority; status on the feature request was "Gaining Support" as of July 2025 | Yes |
| Document intake | Bill and receipt capture via Hubdoc | PDF, CSV and XML through each client's secured web portal |
| Payroll | Available only in select regions | Belgium and Lithuania, expanding; Odoo updated nightly for legal changes |
| Accountant with multiple clients | Accountant access with permissions inside one shared platform | The accountant opens each client's own dedicated Odoo directly — no shared database or portal |
Where FiscFort is different
Isolation by architecture. Each client runs in a fully isolated, dedicated environment — security comes from how the system is built, not only from software settings.
Country-specific statutory coverage. Belgium and Lithuania are supported today, including payroll, Peppol and Intervat for Belgium, with more countries planned. Odoo is updated every night so changes in applicable law reach clients quickly.
Bank data in the standard European format. Reconciliation works from CAMT.053 statements, the end-of-day statement format European banks provide — not a converted or third-party format.
Bring your own invoicing. Clients keep the invoicing system they already use. FiscFort accepts PDF, CSV and XML, or connects through an API, instead of forcing a migration.
Where Xero may still fit
Xero suits small businesses that want a shared, ready-to-use cloud service with a large third-party app marketplace and broad integrations (Shopify, Stripe, PayPal and others). If your business doesn't need Belgian or Lithuanian statutory filings and values that ecosystem over dedicated infrastructure, Xero is a reasonable choice. The comparison comes down to whether local compliance and infrastructure isolation matter more to your practice than a large, established integration marketplace.
